Waffles and a Baby

On January 11, 2012, my daughter was born. Since then, I haven’t thought much about food, except for waffles. For the first few nights, at some point around 4:30 in the morning or so, I would smell maple syrup, which would give me the instant and unignorable craving for waffles.

Sandwich bread

Bread is my personal culinary albatross. Other people seem to do it easily. But mine always end up chewy, doughy, or otherwise heavy. What I’m really looking for is a homemade version of white sandwich bread. And finally, I’ve found a recipe that gets me pretty close.

Leftovers Stir Fry

Given the relative success of the rice dish from the night before, I wanted to have rice again the next night. I also happened to have a lot of leftovers and other ingredients that needed to be eaten soon. And so, stir fry (or really, fried rice, kinda).

Spain-ish Rice

The combination of chicken thighs and cauliflower strikes me as rather Spanish in flavor. So I wanted to make a kind of paella. Problem is, I haven’t made a paella since I was in the 8th grade.
